BBH does NYC

Art

The campaign BBH is doing for NYC & Co. as a part of their global tourism campaign is amazing. The message is true and the feel of the ads are dead-on. The print ads are hand-drawn works of art with a whimsical, “Where’s Waldo?” feel to them. The tv spots are similar; combining real-life images with hand-drawn animations. Why, Mike? Why do you love them so much? Take a look at the print ad and then let me tell you…

NYC

I don’t know if you’ve ever been to New York before but it truly is a magical place. I was born in Brooklyn, lived there until I was five (I know, big whoop), but I visit there at least once a year and I was raised on stories about New York that made it sound like this fantastical kingdom. It wasn’t until my last two visits there this past year that made me realize those stories were so ridiculously true. No matter how many times I visit there, I will always be a tourist. The same goes for New Yorkers. You can’t help but stare at the skyscrapers, drool over the food, get lost in its caverns or be entertained by its people. Like the ad says, this is New York City. And this is New York City, day in and day out. It’s a real-life Disneyland for all-ages and THAT’S why I love this campaign; it embodies that feeling so well.

The city has been stigmatized by people who have never been there but make assumptions about the safety and the people. This campaign is fantastic in the sense that it acknowledges that and reveals the softer side of the city to people all over the world. Bravo, BBH.

And the TV Spot:

I just realized how similar this TV spot is to the Coca Cola ad that Psyop did for W+K.
