A couple new and not-so-new ads that I love
MusicI may be alone on this one, but I think the new Wendy’s commercials by Saatchi & Saatchi are amazing. They are poignant, conceptual, funny and—most importantly—memorable. I’m not a fast food eater and I most definitely do not feel more compelled to eat Wendy’s hamburgers now that I’ve seen those commercials, but I could imagine that the idea of “I want a thick, juicy burger that wasn’t frozen and blah blah blah” will strike a chord with some fast food burger enthusiasts. It seems as if they wanted to position the brand as “fast” but not homogenized like the McDonald’s and the Burger Kings of the world. The protagonist is an individual among sheeple (people + sheep = sheeple).
Here’s a Sony Bravia ad that is visually stunning. At first, when I thought it was all digitally produced, the commercial kinda sucked. But, when my brother Joe, a film grip here in Portland, told me that Fallon actually dropped hundreds of thousands of brightly colored bouncy-balls down a street in San Francisco, it became one of my favorites. The camera work is amazing, the music is awesome (Heartbeats by José González) and the message is decent—Bravia TVs have great color contrast. Enjoy.
You really should watch the high-res version here to get the full effect.
